How to use
How to Generate Meta Tags for a Page
- 1
Write the title and description
Fill in the title and meta description. The counters show your length against a recommended 30 to 60 characters for titles and 120 to 160 for descriptions.
- 2
Add the canonical URL and robots options
Enter the absolute URL of the page, then choose whether search engines may index it and follow its links. Optional extras are noarchive, nosnippet and max-image-preview:large.
- 3
Add social details
Pick an og:type, add a site name, an absolute image URL with alt text and a Twitter card type. Empty social title, description and URL fields fall back to the page values.
- 4
Copy the HTML
Check the Google and social previews, then copy the generated tags and paste them inside the <head> of your page.
What Each Tag Does
These are the tags the generator can output. Tags whose fields you leave empty are omitted.
<title>The page title shown in browser tabs and as the headline of a search result.
meta name="description"A summary search engines may use as the snippet. Google can rewrite it.
meta name="robots"Tells crawlers whether to index the page and follow its links.
link rel="canonical"Points to the preferred URL when the same content is reachable at several addresses.
og:title, og:description, og:imageOpen Graph tags read by Facebook, LinkedIn and many chat apps to build link previews.
twitter:cardSelects the Twitter / X card layout: summary or summary_large_image.
Example: Generated Output
Given a title, a description and a canonical URL, the generator produces markup like this. Quotes, ampersands and angle brackets in your text are escaped so they cannot break the tag.
You enter
Title: Tom & Jerry's "Best" Shop Description: Cheese <fresh> daily Canonical: https://example.com/shop
Generated HTML
<title>Tom & Jerry's "Best" Shop</title> <meta name="description" content="Cheese <fresh> daily"> <link rel="canonical" href="https://example.com/shop">
The full output also includes the robots tag, Open Graph and Twitter tags, and optionally charset and viewport.
Common Use Cases
Launching a new page
Create a consistent set of SEO and social tags for a landing page or blog post before you publish.
Fixing ugly link previews
Add Open Graph and Twitter Card tags so shared links show a proper title, description and image.
Checking title and description length
Use the counters and the approximate pixel width of the title to catch text that may be cut off in search results.
Static sites and plain HTML
Paste generated tags into the head of hand-written HTML, or copy the values into your CMS or framework metadata.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What meta tags does this tool generate?
It generates the title, meta description, robots, canonical link, a set of Open Graph tags (type, URL, title, description, image, image alt, site name, locale) and Twitter Card tags (card type, site, creator, title, description, image, image alt). It can also add charset and viewport tags.
How long should a title and meta description be?
The tool uses 30 to 60 characters for titles and 120 to 160 for descriptions as guides. Google actually truncates by pixel width, not character count, so treat these as guidelines. The title field also shows its approximate width against about 600 pixels.
Are quotes and special characters escaped?
Yes. The characters &, <, >, double quotes and single quotes are converted to HTML entities in titles and attribute values, so text like Tom & Jerry's "Best" Shop cannot break the generated HTML.
Will Google use my meta description?
Not always. Google may show your description or rewrite the snippet based on the search query. The preview is an approximation, and it shows a no-snippet message when nosnippet is selected.
Do I need Open Graph and Twitter tags?
They are optional but recommended if people share your pages. Facebook, LinkedIn and many messaging apps read Open Graph tags. Twitter / X reads its own twitter: tags and falls back to Open Graph when they are missing.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. The tags are generated in your browser as you type. The only network request is the browser loading the image URL you enter, so it can show the social card preview.
